Numbers=More Informative Letters

When you look at a single letter, not much can be figured out other than what letter it is.  It is when we put these letters together that they begin to take meaning.  Letters become words and words become sentences.  But what about numbers?  Are they really relevant in the journalism world?  At first glance you might not think they are, but they truly can make the difference in a story.  Things like age, location, money values and a variety of other things can be told through numbers.  A number in a story can be the difference between someone stealing a lot of money or 1 million dollars.  It could also be the difference between a small child and a 7-year-old child.  When you examine any good news story you can see that numbers truly matter.
